Cameron Clansman

This website celebrates those who descend from the Clan of the name of Cameron, those who are from the families who are acknowledged as Septs of Clan Cameron, and all those who are interested in the history and the Scottish lands where those of this name were first found. We welcome your participation in our meetings and gatherings, we will assist all members with their initial Clan Cameron Family Research and we hope that in becoming one of us you learn more of yourself and your ancestry both here and in Scotland.

Act of Proscription and the Dress Act – 1 August 1746

Along with the Act of Proscription the Dress Act 1746 to ban the wearing of highland clothing came into effect on 1 August 1746. Penalties included 6 months imprisonment for the first offence and transportation for 7 years to the English plantations overseas (indentured slavery) for a further offence. The law was repealed in 1782.
