Notes:
He joined Royal Mint in Britain, then Deputy Master of Sydney Mint in 1890s. He is recorded as passing through Melbourne Jan 1893 on way to taking up his post at the mint.
Later a prospector, finding oil at Tarakan, Borneo. He then lived at Balintraid, Tain, MP for Northern Burghs and Chief of Highland Clans Association
John married Mary Ann Fleming Buttle on 10 Dec 1871 in Islington, London, and was divorced in 1893 in Sydney. Mary was born on 1 Apr 1849 in Forfar; died on 11 May 1918 in Bournemouth, England. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
