  Notes	His grandfather was John Cameron of Strone who died March 1687, husband of Anna who survived him and father of Alexander, Donald, Margaret and Mary Cameron (Testament Dative of 12 Dec 1687). His father was presumably Alexander, not mentioned in Bygone Lochaber or Stewart's The Camerons. What little is known of the earlier generations of the Camerons of Strone can be seen in the standard texts, showing their descent from the Macgillonies. "living 1717,25,37" There has been some uncertainty about the details of the 18th century generations, with many conflicting "facts" in print. Some of these have been proven wrong by recently found legal documents and wills. The following seems to be a reasonable reading of the information available at the present time. Later generations are on a firmer footing.
