Migrated with family arriving 18 Oct 1848 on "Tasman" from Plymouth 15 Jun 1848, recorded as labourer, aged 27, born Urquhart. He was a tailor who from 1853 owned the Balmoral Castle Hotel, Prahran. It was burnt down in 1857 and he sold the hotel site and went back to being a tailor once more on the corner of High and York St, Prahran.
