Notes |
- Major in Lochiel's Regt in 1745, Standard bearer in Prince's army. He surrendered 6 Mar 1746, transferred from Inverary to Edinburgh Castle March 1747.(Ref. London papers March 1747). He was released 11 Oct 1749 (London Evening Post).
Capt. in 78st Fraser Highlanders, gazetted 21 Jul 1757, having served as ensign (the regiment was formed early 1757).
His will of 1757 left all his property to John Cameron, 4th of Glendessary. The will also mentions Donald Cameron, "my natural son" (Ref. Chris Doak)
It has been suggested that Captain Alexander Cameron of Dungallon, who died 1759, is in fact the son of the standard bearer. Regimental histories record him as 4th of Dungallon. One recent (unsourced) independent book gives a birth date of 1730, which would seem to fit his rank (Bernard A. Drew, re Henry Knox).
However a further review of dates of known family members makes this suggestion unlikely.
