    Notes:

    He was the subject of a portrait in Kenneth Macleay's "Highlanders of Scotland" (1872), commissioned by Queen Victoria and presented to him. A biography there states he was born in Meoble, son of Ewen Cameron, ferryman at Loch Lochy, and grandson of Donald Cameron b Inverailort c 1750, who was "personal servant to Charles Cameron during his exile with Prince Charles during his exile in France"

    He was estate worker on the Glengarry estate, later "deer forester" (1851) and estate manager (1861) at Inverie, Glenelg, and farmer, of Mucomir farm, Kilmonivaig. "Of Moy Farm, Lochaber" at sons' marriages

    John married Innes Campbell on 23 Jan 1862 in Greenock. Innes was christened on 14 May 1836 in Glenelg, Inverness-shire; died on 11 Oct 1902 in Hazeldene, Dookie, Vic. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    1. Ewen William Cameron was born on 8 Feb 1863 in Kilmonivaig; died on 14 Mar 1935 in Toorak, Vic.
    2. Donald Campbell Cameron was born on 22 Nov 1864 in Kilmonivaig; died on 22 Jul 1944 in Surrey Hills, Vic; was buried in Terang, Vic.
    3. Mary Elizabeth Cameron was born on 11 Nov 1867 in Kilmonivaig; died on 28 May 1954 in Hawthorn, Vic.
