Migrated to Australia on "Boyne", arriving Sydney 2 Jan 1839. He soon moved to Victoria with his uncles Alexander (Black Sandy) and Duncan Cameron, and thence ca 1844 to Penola, S.A., where he and Black Sandy were pioneers.
In 1865 he moved to Moreland Hall, Coburg, Vic, where he raised his second family.
At various times he had interests in 'Mount Sturgeon Plains', 'Morgiana', 'Avoca Forest', 'Daliamong' and 'Strathfillan'
