He migrated to Australia 1854, to "King" Cameron at Penola, then went on to NZ in 1859 with his cousin Angus Alphonse MacDonald. Explored to north of Invercargill, and took run at Nokomai, South Island. Returned to get stock, and went again to NZ with brothers ca 1860 in "Peregrine Oliver". 1863 of Glenfalloch, Otago.
