Merchant. Described as "only survivor of 1745 rebellion brought to Edinburgh by his mother".
Other sources say he m.1. 1774, Mary Auchinleck (Ref: B. Manson, M. Hale) rather than Mary Richardson

John married Mary Richardson on 2 Dec 1770 in Edinburgh. Mary died in 1785. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

1. John Cameron was born on 25 Sep 1776 in Edinburgh; died on 10 Apr 1790.
2. Donald Cameron was born on 17 Jul 1780 in Lawnmarket, Edinburgh; died on 19 Feb 1857 in Haddon Cottage, Launceston, Tas.

Notes:

An unconfirmed source suggests descent from Camerons of Erracht.
The death at Culloden is also a family story, which may not be based on fact. The only John Cameron reported in the "Muster Roll" as dying there is of the Callart family - another possibility for his origins.
