    He was the subject of a portrait in Kenneth Macleay's "Highlanders of Scotland" (1872), commissioned by Queen Victoria and presented to him. A biography there states he was born in Meoble, son of Ewen Cameron, ferryman at Loch Lochy, and grandson of Donald Cameron b Inverailort c 1750, who was "personal servant to Charles Cameron during his exile with Prince Charles during his exile in France"

    He was estate worker on the Glengarry estate, later "deer forester" (1851) and estate manager (1861) at Inverie, Glenelg, and farmer, of Mucomir farm, Kilmonivaig. "Of Moy Farm, Lochaber" at sons' marriages

    Not with family at Mucomir Farm, Lochaber in 1871 census.

    John married Innes Campbell on 23 Jan 1862 in Greenock. Innes was christened on 14 May 1836 in Glenelg, Inverness-shire; died on 11 Oct 1902 in Hazeldene, Dookie, Vic. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
