Baptised as John Cameron (Bowthorne added later to distinguish him from his half brother John)
He was raised by Christina Munro, below, and by his bachelor uncles, John Cameron (of Solitude) and Angus Cameron (of Strone). He lived on the Orara for years. He later lived at Maclean working at Cameron's (unrelated) store.

Ann McPhee then married 20 Feb 1847, Williams River, Hector McLean, moving to the Clarence River, near the Cameron family

He was a road contractor, living at Laga, Ardnamurchan.
The name MacPherson appears to have gradually changed to McPherson over years - I have used the latter spelling from this point

Migrated 1852 on "Marmion" with nine children She arrived at Portland, and spent time in Victoria and South Australia (engaged for 12 months by Mr A. Cameron of Mt Gambier). She may have then gone to the Lower Hunter Valley but about 1857 she moved to the Orora River, a tributary of the Clarence River. She was described as Donald's eldest daughter
